Inside the atelier: designing a calmer treatment room

Daylight lamps, linen and warm stone — the small decisions behind a room that lowers your shoulders.

When we moved into Mott Street, we spent more time on the light than on the furniture. Skin is read in daylight, so the room had to behave like a north-facing window all day long.

Light first

Every treatment room has high-CRI daylight lamps on dimmers. We analyse at full brightness, then lower the light for the massage so the eyes can rest.

Materials that age well

  • Washed linen on every bed, changed after each client.

  • Warm limestone counters that never look clinical.

  • Fluted plaster walls that soften sound between rooms.

A calm room is mostly the absence of things you did not choose.

The result is a space that feels more like a quiet apartment than a clinic — which, after all, is the point.
